Birds of a Feather Auction Ongoing

Here's a riddle. What's a home for one, a source of income for two others and art for the entire neighborhood? It's the annual bird house auction, sponsored by the Friends of the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge.

To answer the riddle, the bird houses, which are built and designed by local artists, are a home for the birds, but they also provide income for the both the creators and the refuge's friends group. Finally, they are lovely works of art that can be enjoyed by an entire neighborhood.

Folks are encouraged to bid until "Eye Full of Paris" weekend when the friend's group will gather up the bird houses and take them to Lee Academy for the "Wild for Life Art Show and Sale" on Friday night, September 25. The bidding will close that evening and the winners will be notified."

Bird houses may be viewed and bids may be made at businesses throughout Paris, including: Foundation Bank, Paula Kelly's Flowers and Gifts, the Henry County Extension Office, the office of the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge and the Commercial Bank and Trust Company branches. Birdhouses also are at 13 locations in historic downtown Paris, including: Kristi's Korner, Commercial Bank and Trust, Paris-Post Intelligencer, One-Hour Martinizing, Jack Jones Flowers and Gifts, Paris Karate, Security Bank, Maggies, Perkins Drugs, Lee Academy for the Arts, Leach's Music, Dan Knowles String Instruments and the Iron Place.
